DONNIE POWELL

Dear Nursing Home and Hospice,

You are angels on Earth.

We reluctantly entrusted our loved one to your care.

Over time we visited and observed you at your work.

You treated our loved one with respect, dignity, tenderness, compassion, love, gentleness, caring, etc.

You have provided care around the clock, which we could not do.

Your duties may not be glorious and may even be unpleasant, but you never complain or grumble. You clean, change linens, bathe, dress, feed, turn them in their beds, help them into wheel chairs, administer medicine, do paperwork, talk to them, get to know them, care for them as valuable individual people, brush their teeth, comb their hair, do their laundry, help them walk and help them through sickness.

You are so professional and patient — I marvel, knowing I could not do your job.

Your job is more than just a job. It is, as one said, a calling that provides a great service.

When Hospice angels were called in to provide their special end-of-life care, our emotions ran even higher.

We were sad, upset, perhaps angry, guilt ridden, near tears, etc.

Yet you displayed such professionalism, empathy, comfort, etc., in the last days. We were impressed and grateful.

You encouraged us to hold our loved one’s hand and tell them we loved them — to say our final goodbyes.

You were helping our loved one but you helped us, too.

When a baby is born on Earth there is joy and happiness With our loved one being “born into heaven,” we, too, are happy and joyful — but sad at our loss.

The end is never easy but you made it easier for our loved one and for us.

Earth angels like you in the nursing home and hospice, make our loved one’s “promotion” or “passing” to a heavenly angel easier.

We made the right choice entrusting our loved one to your care.

We can never thank you enough.

May God bless and keep you.
